Private backyard in august

A team effort

All photos by Ponderosa Portraits

As longtime teachers in Southwest Colorado, Amy and Ashley had a huge local community who wanted to help make their day special. Many of the decor elements were built or arranged by guests. To help save the couple on cost, Stoked managed nearly 50 enthusiastic volunteers who contributed to the wedding.

We tented a meadow on their family’s property (with permission & help from the neighbors) to make sure there was a comfortable place to eat and dance, no matter the weather that day. Their family landscaped a clearing in their aspen grove to make room for the ceremony, using the cut trees to build an arbor and memorial table.

After a touching ceremony, Amy and Ashley celebrated cocktail hour with Aperol spritzes and canapes in the August sunshine. Guests enjoyed a buffet dinner at farm tables, followed by many toasts from all the loved ones who had been touched by the couple’s giving and adventurous nature over the years.

The dance floor burst to life after the newlywed first dance, and everyone enjoyed a relaxed and unstructured evening. Every piece of the day had been personal to Amy, Ashley, and their big group of loved ones.
